Buffer alternatives: what to use when per-channel pricing stops working

Buffer's per-channel pricing is the cheapest option at 3 accounts and one of the most expensive at 20. Where the crossover sits, and what to move to.

Buffer's pricing is the easiest to understand in this category and that is exactly why people outgrow it without noticing. At $5 a month per channel it is the cheapest way to schedule two or three accounts. At twenty accounts it is $100 a month for a tool that does not make any of the content.

We build Bleam, which appears near the end of this list, and the section about it is mostly reasons not to buy it. Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 5 August 2026.

The short version:

Tool3 accounts10 accounts25 accounts
Buffer Essentials$15/mo$50/mo$125/mo
SocialBee$29/mo$49/mo$99/mo
Later$18.75/mo yearly$18.75/mo yearly$37.50/mo yearly
Predis.ai$19/mo$19/mo$40/mo

Later and Predis figures reflect their bundle sizes rather than exact account counts. Later Starter covers 8 profiles, Growth 16. Predis Core covers 10 social accounts, Rise 20.

The crossover point

Buffer bills per channel, where a channel is one social account. Everyone else on this list bills in bundles. That single difference decides which is cheaper, and the answer flips at around ten accounts.

Under ten, Buffer usually wins, and the free plan covering 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each is genuinely enough for a lot of small businesses.

Over ten, bundles win and the gap widens fast. Twenty accounts costs $100 on Buffer Essentials. SocialBee Pro covers 25 profiles for $99 and throws in 5 workspaces, which matters if those accounts belong to different clients.

Workspaces are the agency feature to check

If you run accounts for other people, the number that matters is not profiles, it is workspaces.

SocialBee separates them explicitly: Pro includes 5 workspaces at $99, and the agency tiers go to 10, 20 and 30 workspaces. Later uses social sets, 8 profiles each, which groups accounts but is sold as capacity rather than as client separation.

Buffer does not price around this at all. Twenty client accounts is twenty channels in one place.

When the problem is not scheduling

Every tool above assumes you already have posts. If your queue is empty at the end of the month because nobody had time to make anything, a cheaper scheduler does not help.

Predis.ai generates posts and video from a brand profile, priced by credits: 1,300 a month on the $19 Core plan, described as roughly 86 AI images or 9 videos.

Bleam generates carousels, single posts and captions from a brand kit, then schedules and publishes them. Rp 50,000 a month for Scheduler, Rp 299,000 for Pro, Rp 699,000 for Max, billed in rupiah.

Where Bleam loses: Instagram only. No TikTok, LinkedIn or X. No DM or comment inbox, so if you moved to Buffer partly for its reply features, this is a step backwards. Pricing and support are built for the Indonesian market.

If you are outside Indonesia or you post to more than Instagram, take SocialBee or stay on Buffer. If you are an Indonesian brand whose real problem is producing content rather than publishing it, try Bleam.

For a wider comparison including Later's social set model, see Later alternatives. If the tool you are actually leaving is ManyChat rather than a scheduler, that is a different decision: start with what ManyChat costs, then the alternatives, split by use.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a channel in Buffer?

One social account. Buffer defines it as a single Instagram profile, Facebook page, LinkedIn page or TikTok account. Every account you connect is billed separately at $5 or $10 a month.

At what point does Buffer stop being cheap?

Around 10 channels. Ten channels on Essentials is $50 a month, which is where bundled plans like SocialBee at $49 for 10 profiles start matching it and then beating it.

Is Buffer's free plan enough for a small business?

Often yes. Three channels with 10 scheduled posts each, refillable, covers a business posting a few times a week on one or two networks. The limit is queue depth, not features.

Does any alternative include content creation?

Predis.ai and Bleam generate posts from a brand profile. Later and SocialBee, like Buffer, publish what you supply. Decide which problem you have before comparing prices.

Do I lose my scheduled posts if I switch?

Anything already published stays on the platform. Queued and drafted posts generally do not migrate between tools, so budget an afternoon to rebuild the queue.
